Live streaming Bodycam for Temporary Traffic Management
Real-time Event Management for stadium event
The All Blacks played against Ireland at Eden Park earlier this year. (All Blacks won 42 – 19!)
4G Body camera for Temporary Traffic Management
Independent Traffic Management was tasked to plan, set up and manage the event.
Independent Traffic Control Limited (iTraffic) specialises in the planning, design, implementation, and management of Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) services for all road levels, for all situations, nationwide.
iTraffic has extensive experience in servicing various TTM projects and has a proven track record in project efficiency. They promote a culture of the highest quality service and protect their health and safety records.
Tactical Solutions partnered with iTraffic to demonstrate how their Zepcam T3 Live Bodycams worked during the different stages of event management.
Setting up Temporary Traffic Management with Live Streaming Bodycam
iTraffic had strategic Zepcam T3 live bodycams streaming during the setup to the traffic management event.
The operations manager had a body camera streaming during the setup and visited various key points to make sure that his team had setup traffic checkpoints to the correct road management standards.
The area spread over a considerable distance and the operations manager used a Zepcam T3 Live Bodycam to record all the movement and interactions with the team.
The body camera utilises 4G mobile data (plans available from Tactical Solutions, see below) and the upload speed were flawless throughout his setup phase.
The data is uploaded to the Cloud and accessed through fully GDPR compliant Zepcam Manager and can be seen in real-time by users at the control centre. The live footage could be seen with a map and had GPS coordinates on them so that the main controller back at base could track the progress of the operations manager, as well as note down where additional resources had to be diverted for the traffic management project to run efficiently.
Real-time data when it matters most
There were two medical instances where paramedics and an ambulance had to be called in to assist. The organisers were given an instant look at the severity of the situation and managed to redirect resources.
Effective Temporary Traffic Control using a body camera
Real-time Visual confirmation
The first challenge that the iTraffic team had was to make sure that the All Blacks team bus made it safely into the stadium.
The bus was off schedule and the team inside the stadium wanted to know when the bus would be arriving so that they could control the crowds and make sure the players got a safe welcome to the stadium.
The operations manager was in constant contact with the control room and the controller gave a rough idea of where the bus was.
When the operations manager was told that the bus was nearing the area he proceeded to the entrance to manage the traffic, so that the bus could easily enter through the stadium gates.
Controllers got real-time visual confirmation that the bus had entered into the stadium and the camera captured all the details of the surrounding crowd and vehicles that were in the area.
Live evaluation for personnel redeployment
During the start and the end of the event there were times when there were increased amounts of foot and vehicle traffic at certain areas along the managed traffic route.
The controllers could see where the congestion was happening, in real time, and they managed to seamlessly redeploy personnel to help manage the surge and keep traffic flowing smoothly.
Bodycams deescalate tense traffic situations
Once the event was finished there was a considerable amount of traffic congestion on New North Road. There were a large amount of taxis that were waiting to pick up passengers and were either illegally parked or trying to fit into inadequate parking spaces.
The entire road came to a standstill and tempers were rising. The operations manager was deployed to the road to fix the problem. He manged to quickly to navigate through the traffic and get cars moving again.
Those that did not want to move were shown the camera and the police were pulled in to motivate those that were illegally parked to keep things moving.
The operations manager often pointed to his body camera and said “those illegally parked will be ticketed and towed, (pointing to the bodycam) there is my witness, you have been warned. which stopped any form of escalation from the public’s side.
One touch incident tagging on bodycam
There were three incidents that required additional support having real-time eyes-on helped organisers ascertain the seriousness of the incident.
The incidents were tagged on the camera and could be linked to a report showing that all procedures were followed from the organisers perspective and were later used for training purposes to show how to react to similar future situations.
Collision caught on bodycam
During the process of getting the traffic moving there was a collision between two taxis.
The operator tapped the camera button, and an incident tag was set and bookmarked an event inside the Zepcam Manager system.
The footage was later shared with the drivers.
Initially the call was reported that there was an accident between two taxis to the control centre.
When the controller sighted the live footage he was able to hold off sending a tow-truck and causing more congestion on the road.
Bodycam gives you situational awareness
There were two medical instances where paramedics and an ambulance had to be called in to assist.
The organisers were given an instant look at the severity of the situation and managed to redirect resources.
Video Evidence for Auditing and training purposes
One of the incidents that were recorded during the incident was a taxi driver that illegally parked at one of the main entrances within stadium grounds.
Two different roading operators tried to move the vehicle but the driver was not cooperating and was refusing to move.
The body camera immediately reduced aggression and a third operator moved in and managed to defuse the situation and used a combination of verbal cues to resolve a difficult incident.
The footage will be used for training other roading staff in how to deal with challenges of the same nature.
Privacy Concerns
One of the features available on the Cloud Software is the ability to redact people’s faces and voices.
